A
special ceremony was held in the Hall of Flags at the Capitol in
Augusta on Wednesday, June 4 to commemorate the first week of June
as Polio Awareness Week. Governor John Baldacci read the following

CONTINUES TO REACH AND INFORM THOSE EXPERIENCING THE LATE EFFECTS
OF POLIO AND TO PROVIDE ACCURATE INFORMATION TO THE MEDICAL
COMMUNITY AND THE PUBLIC; AND, |

RECOGNITION AND ACCEPTANCE OF ALL INDIVIDUALS WITH A DISABILITY. |

Thanks go to Board Member Reggie Arsenault and his efforts in
working with State Representative John Patrick and State Senator
Bruce Bryant to obtain the Polio Awareness Week Proclamation.
Speakers at the ceremony included the Governor, Rep. John Patrick
and Senator Bruce Bryant, Group President Ann Crocker, Board
Members Dorothy Woods Smith and Lois "Burnsie" Stevens and
representatives from Rotary International, sponsor of efforts to
help eradicate polio everywhere. An article was sent to many
newspapers, which may have printed it during that week. WCSH-TV in
Portland showed a polio story that appeared on June 4. Several
inquiries have been received through our website as a result of
this publicity.
